Psalm 139:23-24: "Search Me"

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. - Psalm 139:23-24
I learned these words as the words to a song while I lived in the Philippines and have always been challenged by the request that the author gives to God. It is a form of accountability that I am uncomfortable with because I don't like having to justify myself to anyone. But the author invites God in. How will I invite God in?
  • Search - God, feel free to look around in my life. Open any door, dump out any drawer, rummage through any closet. Transparency is a voluntary, but crucial aspect of any relationship.
  • Know - Get a full working understanding of what makes me tick. No secrets as to what influences my decisions.
  • Test - Are my claims about myself real? Or is it a facade? Is my profession of faith and devotion real, or an attempt to manage the impressions of those around me; to make me appear 'spiritual'. Don't let me settle for the veneer.
  • Know (2nd time) - Drive along with me for a day in my thought life; see what dominates my thinking and what is important in my life. I am often controlled by my fears; please understand that I am weak; I need a big God.
  • See - Have I left something standing between myself and God?
  • Lead - My path and my agenda are not important. Show me your path and your agenda.
